They have been waiting for justice. It’s been six long years since the Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa was assassinated and the family has been unable to shut it down.

But finally there seemed to be a light at the end of the tunnel.

It was learned that the murder weapon used in the crime was allegedly found and the person linked to the firearm was already in jail, serving a prison sentence for a different matter.

Would they finally get the closure they were waiting for? The family wondered.

But it seems not. Don’t believe a word of all that.

“It’s all lies,” says the Meyiwa family.

“They think we are stupid, like we can’t think for ourselves. They think that because they have money they can do whatever they want in this world, ”says Sfiso Meyiwa.

“The disturbing thing is that what is said is not the truth.”

October is a delicate time for the Meyiwas because it is the month he was killed in Vosloorus, where he and his girlfriend, singer Kelly Khumalo, met friends at his mother’s home.

Just two weeks ago, the family had something to smile about when, after six years, the South African Football Association (SAFA) erected and presented the family with Senzo’s headstone.

Senzo’s older brother, Sfiso, says the family has suffered one blow after another. All they want is peace knowing that the person responsible for the murder is rotting in jail.

According to him, it is not the first time that investigators have linked someone who is already in prison to the case.

“It also happened at the beginning of the year. A lot of deceptive things are happening here. Kant How many people killed Senzo? Sfiso asks.

The Meyiwa family believes that someone rich and powerful is hiding and protecting the murderer.

“Senzo was not killed by people who were not in the house, thieves as they say. He was shot by a person who was in the house after an argument started, we all know that. That has always been the truth that we know. Money won’t get them very far, ”he adds.

An emotional Sfiso admits that things are difficult, especially for the elderly in the family like his mother. It doesn’t help to see Senzo’s name soggy every time there’s a new track, only to have it blown away.

“I am a firm believer. I know that God is in control of everything. We know there are investigators in this case who are unfazed and stand firm in the truth. They have tried to distract them but have failed. In the name of Jesus, those who are trying to hide the truth will not succeed, ”says Sfiso.

Six years have passed and two police ministers have made promises to the family that have yet to materialize, they say. Later, Minister Fikile Mbalula promised that the killers would be found.

The current police minister, Bheki Cele, has also promised the family on several occasions that they are stepping up efforts to close the case.

One day they hope to know the whole truth with the help of the ministry and Afriforum, says Sfiso. Afriforum has been following the case.

In the meantime, all they can hope for is peace.
