Daily Sun photojournalist Lucky Nxumalo lost his battle with cancer Sunday night at his Orlando East home in Soweto, where he grew up. He turned 51 on December 2.

“We have known and loved Lucky for his incredibly positive and exuberant attitude and his genuine and kind spirit that touched us all. He shone very brightly in his work through his lens. The journalism industry is poorer without his contribution. Missed. for the Daily Sun family and our condolences to his wife Tumi, their six children and his family. Details of the funeral will be shared in due course, “said Mapula Nkosi, editor-in-chief of the Daily Sun.

Nxumalo had been the publication’s photographer for the past 12 years, since 2008. He also did most of the photographic work for Sunday Sun. Before working for the Daily Sun, Nxumalo worked for Sowetan and City Press and was also a freelance photographer for Bona Magazine.
