Some of the best students in the country in private schools say that 2020 turned out to be a stressful time for them emotionally. The Independent Examinations Board (IEB) released their matrix results for the class of 2020, and the group achieved a 98.07% pass rate.

Aliya Swart, who enrolled at Elkanah House, said she couldn’t be more proud of the results she achieved. “I set my goals and somehow through Covid I managed to achieve them. I was all nervous last night but all joy this morning, ”she said.

He said the hardest part was the uncertainty surrounding the exams and what was going on with the school.

“It was definitely a learning curve for all of us because we were all in the same boat.” Swart said he will study medicine at Stellenbosch University.

Another enrollee Ethan Poole said that teamwork with his peers was a great help during the pandemic: “It was difficult despite all the stress during the pandemic, but we got through it together. It’s good to see that the hard work pays off, ”he said.

Elkanah’s house had 85 enrolled. They achieved a 100% matrix pass rate. The school conducted a drive-by for students to collect their results in accordance with Covid-19 regulations.

Elkanah House Executive Director Vivian Jones said: “Last year was very anxious because we were learning weekly with the changes, we didn’t know how this would play out. I am overwhelmed with the tuition results. I am very proud of the teachers. I thought teachers would pull a rabbit out of a hat. “

St Cyprians School for Girls achieved a 100% enrollment pass rate. They had about 67 enrolled.

Enrollee Rory Stevens received 100% math: “It was the hardest period of my life, I never cried so much. I really took this time to realize how easy it was, I had incredible support, the school was really amazing, and I had great teachers who were always a phone call away. ”Stevens said he hopes to study chemical engineering at the University of Cape Town.

12,024 full-time and 1,139 part-time candidates from 233 exam centers who wrote in 261 locations across southern Africa wrote the IEB Higher National Certificate (NSC) exams in October and November 2020. This is an increase with compared to 2019, when there were 11,818 full-time candidates and 779 part-time candidates.
