The KwaSizabantu mission, which faces alarming allegations of assault and sexual abuse, says employees at its multi-million rand bottled water and agricultural plant are suffering after negative publicity caused their products to be pulled from shelves.
On a press tour Wednesday, Ruth Combrink, the general manager of aQuellé and daughter of mission founder Erlo Stegen, said they had been in constant communication with retailers after companies like Pick n Pay suspended the sale of their products once the allegations emerged.
“They have not removed the product from the list, but in light of the allegations, which they took seriously, they felt they should suspend the product until there is more clarity on the allegations,” he said.
“As mentioned, these are accusations and nothing has been proven yet. We have reached out to our clients and trade and keep them updated on our position and what we are doing on the issues and our internal investigation. “
