A Cape Town furniture factory caught fire, and firefighters rushed to the scene Sunday.

The Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service received an emergency call shortly after 11:00 from a burning building on Victoria Road, Woodstock, said Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Jermaine Carelse.

Video footage of the fire shows thick black smoke and flames rising from what appeared to be the DAG furniture store, near the Colonial Hotel. The store made custom and exclusive fine furniture, according to its social media profile.

“Crews from the Salt River and Roeland Street Fire Station were dispatched to the incident. When the officer in charge arrived on the scene, he immediately requested additional resources,” Carlese said.

“Teams from Brooklyn, Epping and Milnerton arrived to help. A furniture factory was confirmed to be on fire.”

Firefighters managed to contain the fire shortly after 1:02 p.m.

“Firefighters will remain on the scene for a considerable time to ensure that the fire is completely extinguished.”
