SEACOM has announced that Byron Clatterbuck has resigned from his position as CEO and will be replaced by Oliver Fortuin.

Clatterbuck joined SEACOM in 2012 as Commercial Director and became Group Managing Director in February 2015. His tenure with the company will end on March 31, 2021.

“Mr. Clatterbuck has been instrumental in SEACOM’s change from a submarine cable operator to becoming Africa’s leading Internet and data transmission provider, offering services to other service providers, directly to businesses, and more recently , to the consumer market under the WonderNet brand. ” said SEACOM President Pieter Uys.

“SEACOM shareholders and employees wish to thank Mr. Clatterbuck for his valuable contributions over the past eight years.”

Clatterbuck said that he has made this decision for personal reasons and that it has been planned for some time.

“However, I did not want to take the final step until we had the right leader lined up to assume leadership of SEACOM as we move into the African markets and continue our growth in the enterprise segment,” said Clatterbuck.

“I am very pleased and confident to hand over the leadership of SEACOM to Oliver Fortuin, who will have the skillful support of SEACOM’s world-class executive team.”

Fortuin is currently the Group Companies Director at MTN, and will assume the position of CEO of SEACOM on January 4, 2021.

He has more than two decades of experience in the ICT sector in South Africa and the rest of Africa.

“The SEACOM team has built an excellent platform for data connectivity in the markets where we operate,” said Fortuin.

“Now we look forward to expanding this as well as developing more industry leading services that today’s corporate clients in Africa require.”

“Our key focus will be to strengthen our customer base in the corporate segment by offering a broader range of services that provide greater value to our customers and can help SEACOM capture more wallet share in this space,” he said.

SEACOM said its key growth focus going forward is to expand its value proposition to a full fiber telecommunications provider for the enterprise and corporate segments.
