Durban – The South African Social Security Agency has launched an online application portal that will help applicants apply for certain social grants online.
Sassa’s Sandy Godlwana said the trial system will run from today until September 25 and requests can be submitted via https://services.sassa.gov.za which is a secure website.
He said that after reviewing the system, other grants will also be added to the portal.
“This should be a relief to grant applicants, as it will save them the hassle of queuing at Sassa offices to apply for their grants.
“The added benefit is that the convenience of online applications eliminates the risk of becoming infected with the Covid-19 virus because there will be no need to meet in public places to apply,” Godlwana said.
He said remote self-service will be possible on a computer and smartphone.
“The response time is 10 days, as long as the applicant provides all the stipulated documents, such as the identity documents of the applicant and his spouse, as well as bank details, among others,” he said.
The services that will be available:
- Grant Applications for Foster Child Grants, Senior Grants and
- Online submission of required supporting documentation linked to application
- Change of circumstances (method of payment, bank details, address)
Godlwana explained that to access this service, applicants must have an email address to register and be able to log in for more services.
“Comments to applicants will be sent via SMS notification to applicants without an email address and an email response will be sent to applicants who choose to be contacted by email,” he said.
Added that a receipt would be generated when the request was completed.
“It is important to note that the supporting documents that must be attached must be certified. These documents must be certified by a commissioner of oaths, ”he said.
