The SA Revenue Service (Sars) has welcomed the Pretoria High Court ruling annulling the report issued by the public protector in July 2019 on its findings on an investigative unit in the revenue service.
In his report on his investigation into Sars’s “rogue unit”, Busisiwe Mkhwebane found that the establishment of the unit, approved by Pravin Gordhan, violated the constitution.
Gordhan was the Sars commissioner when the unit was formed.
Took the report for review last year.
Sars said the higher court ruling confirmed his powers to collect intelligence related to tax crimes.
