CAPE TOWN – The Popcru Police Union said the police had tried hard enough and did not deserve to be attacked or threatened by Julius Malema.

The leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has stated that if SAPS officials want a fight, they will be attacked in their homes with their families.

Malema was addressing the public in the Free State on Sunday.

Popcru said Malema’s apparent threats came at a time when police were already facing attacks.

“We will come to you one by one in your own comfort zone. We will teach you that no one can defeat the power of the masses.”

The statement was reportedly directed at law enforcement after officials fired tear gas, water cannons and stun grenades at an EFF protest at Brackenfell in Cape Town last week.

Richard Mamabolo of the union said they are concerned that it is not the first time Malema has insulted or criticized the police.

“These SAPS members have been under pressure. You should be careful what you say in public, especially since your followers may take this literally.”
