Sandton-packed Blackdoor nightclub manager arrested after police raid

The manager of the popular Blackdoor Lifestyle Lounge in Sandton, Johannesburg, was arrested for violating lockdown regulations, police said.

The SAPS, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department, the Gauteng traffic police and several other law enforcement agencies closed the disco in the early hours of Sunday.

This after more than Apparently 300 customers were found in the establishment after midnight curfew.

Pictures taken during the raid show that the nightclub is packed.

Police Minister Bheki Cele, who was also present during the raid, said there was no social distancing and that no one wore a mask.

“It tells you that if the second wave comes, not many will survive.”

Cele spokesperson Lirandzu Themba confirmed that the Blackdoor manager had been arrested for operating a business without a liquor license and violating level one lockdown regulations.

The manager was detained at the Sandton Police Station.

Themba said liquor valued at more than 800,000 rand was seized.

Meanwhile in Midrand At XO Lounge, formerly known as Teazers, police found employees still on the premises after midnight.

They had to pay a fine of 1,000 rand each to be released.
