After the apparent appointment of Luc eymael As Chippa United’s head coach on Wednesday, the South African Football Association (SAFA) has confirmed that they will oppose him receiving a work permit.
In a statement posted on its website, SAFA confirmed that it would discuss the matter with Interior Minister Aaron Motsoaledi.
“The South African Football Association has learned with dismay the news of the appointment of the unrepentant racist Luc Eymael as head coach of Chippa United FC.” the statement read.
“In July this year, SAFA joined the rest of the progressive world in condemning Eymael after he was fired by Young Africans FC in Tanzania for referring to club supporters as monkeys and dogs who know nothing about football.
“We find it deeply offensive that as the global soccer community is united in solidarity around the Black Lives Matter campaign, Chippa United FC sees fit to hire a character to work in the city named after the founding father of the nation, Tata Nelson Mandela, the champion of a world free of racism and other forms of discrimination.
“The SAFA will immediately write to the Minister of the Interior to express its objection to the granting of a work permit for him. We will also ask the Ethics Committees of FIFA and SAFA to accuse Mr. Eymael as his despicable conduct is a violation of the codes of both bodies “ the statement concluded.
While Eymael was announced as Chippa’s coach on Wednesday in a statement released by the club, the Belgian confirmed to Kick Off that he has not yet signed any deals.
“I’m surprised. I haven’t signed anything with the club. Yes, they approached me and we had discussions. But it’s not true that I signed,” said Eymael, who had previously coached Polokwane City, Black Leopards and Free State Stars. in the highest South African category.
