the South African Football Association (SAFA) has issued a strong statement following news of Chippa united imminent appointment of Luc eymael as head coach.
LOTS OF CONFUSION IN CHIPPA UNITED
There was a lot of confusion late Wednesday afternoon when Chilli Boys coach Lehlohonolo Seema was suspended.
Chippa United later issued a statement (see below) confirming the appointment of Eymael from Belgium.
Soon after, however, Eymael denied signing with the DStv Premiership club.
Eymael sparked anger in Africa earlier this year and was fired from the Yanga Africans of the Tanzanian Premier League when a video surfaced on social media describing the club’s fans as “illiterate” and “cute.”
SAFA LEARNED WITH DISMAY ABOUT EYMAEL’S SIGNATURE
‘The South African Football Association has learned with dismay the news of the appointment of the unrepentant racist, Luc Eymael, as head coach of Chippa United FC, ‘ read a SAFA statement.
“In July of this year, SAFA joined the rest of the progressive world in condemning Eymael after he was fired by Young Africans FC in Tanzania for referring to club supporters as monkeys and dogs who know nothing about football.
‘We find it deeply offensive that since the global soccer community is united in solidarity around the Black Lives Matter campaign, Chippa United FC deems it appropriate to hire a character to work in the city named after the founding father of the nation, Tata Nelson Mandela, the champion of a world free of racism and other forms of discrimination.
SAFA will immediately contact the Minister of the Interior to express its objection to the granting of a work permit. We will also ask the Ethics Committees of FIFA and SAFA to accuse Mr. Eymael because his despicable conduct is a violation of the codes of both bodies ”.
