Newly appointed president of the African Football Confederation (CAF) Patrice motsepe has appointed the head of the South African Football Association (SAFA) Danny Jordaan as advisor in charge of ‘sport and marketing’.

According to the official CAF website, the CAF executive committee met by videoconference earlier this week to discuss soccer infrastructure, African competitions and also announced several appointments.

Jordaan was confirmed as “Advisor in charge of sports and marketing to the presidency” while Motsepe also announced, “Jacques Bernard D. Anouma from Côte d’Ivoire as Senior Special Advisor to the President”.

Meanwhile, SAFA issued a congratulatory statement to Jordaan, who was also not present at the announcement of the dismissal of Bafana Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki on Wednesday.

“The former 2010 FIFA World Cup Director General has vast experience in this area, having served on FIFA’s television and marketing board as well as CAF marketing in the past.” the statement read.

“Jordaan, who was CAF vice president until last month’s Electoral Congress in Morocco, served in various departments during the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany and 2014 in Brazil and his recent appointment will add much-needed value in the departments of marketing and competencies of the CAF “.

Meanwhile, the CAF executive committee also approved the dates of the next draw for the African Cup of Nations (Afcon) that will take place on Friday, June 25, 2021.

The long-awaited tournament will be hosted by Cameroon and will start next year in January 9th with the final game scheduled for February 6th.
