DURBAN – South Africa will remain on coronavirus lockdown alert level 1. Tonight, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that only a few changes will be made to the current lockdown regulations before Easter weekend.
However, the sale of alcohol off-site is not permitted on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.
Ramaphosa said that the sale of alcohol on site (in restaurants and pubs, etc.) is still allowed.
Addressing the nation, he said the curfew remains the same, from midnight to 4 a.m., and that public spaces such as beaches, parks and dams will remain open subject to people adhering to safety regulations. Covid-19.
“With regard to other meetings, these will also be restricted to a maximum number of 250 people indoors and 500 outdoors. As before, when the venue is too small to accommodate these numbers with appropriate social distancing, then no more than 50 percent of the venue’s capacity can be used.
” We continue to urge all South Africans to avoid gatherings if they belong to a vulnerable group, such as the elderly and people with comorbidities. We will review these measures on the size of the meetings within the next 15 days based on an assessment of the state of the pandemic and the degree of compliance with health protocols, “he said.
