It was announced on Monday that a five-team New Zealand franchise tournament, called Super Rugby Aotearoa, the Saturday June 13.

With the 2020 Super Rugby tournament suspended after seven rounds of matches, the last of which took place on March 13, it has been three long months for sports fans in the southern hemisphere as the coronavirus crisis has halted the world sport.

However, New Zealand has flattened the curve enough for professional sport to resume.

But will South Africans be able to watch that tournament on television?

Although nothing has been confirmed, the first indications are that thanks to its excellent relationship with Sky Sport NZ, a local radio station SuperSport He trusts that those matches will be screened LIVE for their subscribers to follow.

However, the “bad” news is that South African fans will have to wake up earlier than usual if they want to get their dose of rugger live.

There are 10 rounds of games scheduled, with two games every weekend, one on Saturday and one on Sunday.

On Saturday all games start in 07:05 (SA time), while Sunday’s games start at 05:05 (SA time).

Be sure to set those alarm clocks!
