Johannesburg – The number of South Africans who died due to Covid-19 now stands at 52,954 after eight new deaths were recorded on Saturday.
Three were recorded in the Free State, one in Gauteng, two in KwaZulu Natal, one in the North Cape, and one in the Western Cape.
The number of registered infections in the country since the start of the pandemic now stands at $ 1,551,501.
Health Minister Dr. Zweli Mkhize revealed these new numbers on Saturday.
“Our cumulative recoveries today amount to 1,476,605, representing a 95% recovery rate.
“The number of healthcare workers vaccinated under the Sisonke Protocol remains 269,102,” Mkhize said.
Mkhize also said that the cumulative total of tests performed was 9,956,086 with 16,391 tests completed so far.
“We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the deceased and we thank the health workers who treated the deceased,” he said.
