Durban – The Department of Health said on Saturday there had been 1,541 new infections in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections in South Africa to 1,528,414.
A further 82 deaths were reported, up from the previous report of 69. The country’s death toll is 51,261.
To date, 1,452,988 people have recovered from the virus, representing a 95% recovery rate, the department said.
In the last 24 hours, 32,862 tests were carried out, 15,734 from the private sector and 17 128 from the public sector.
KwaZulu-Natal remains the province with the highest number of active cases in the country.
Deaths by province
Fifty percent of the deaths reported Saturday came from the Northwest.
Limpopo and the Northern Cape had zero Covid-19-related deaths.
