South Africa has recorded 7,999 new cases of Covid-19 and 170 more deaths from the virus in the past 24 hours, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize confirmed in a statement on Sunday.
The cumulative number of cases in the country is now 860,964.
To date, 23,276 have died as a result of the virus.
A total of 170 more COVID-19-related deaths have been reported in the past 24 hours. The Eastern Cape reported 94 deaths, the Free State reported 11, Gauteng reported three, Kwa-Zulu Natal reported four, the Northern Cape reported four deaths, and the Western Cape reported 54.
During the last 24 hours, 40,211 tests were carried out, bringing the total number of tests since the start of the pandemic to 5,819,755.
A cumulative total of 5,859,178 tests have been completed with 39,423 new tests performed since the last report.
Recoveries now stand at 761011.
Resident Cyril Ramaphosa will address the nation Monday night on the latest developments in the country’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.
The exact time of the president’s speech will be released on Monday.
“The speech will be broadcast and broadcast on a variety of platforms that are accessible to South Africans and the international public,” Tyrone Seale, acting spokesman for the president, said in a statement released Sunday.
