The wall of Sibusiso Makhanya’s house was completely damaged.
At that point we had finished with dinner. My parents were sleeping and we were watching television. We hear people yelling outside. The next thing we knew was this truck that went through the wall and into our yard and into the other house, which is our neighbors’, “he said.
The 27-year-old said it was a very traumatic time for his family, especially his younger siblings, who were at home and very scared at the time.
“It was very traumatic. You are relaxing in your own home, you are comfortable, already in bed. My mother also had to tell my dad to move from the room to the bathroom because they thought the truck might have entered the house and hit them.
Makhanya said there were many accidents on Stapleton Road, some of which involved school children.
“We had an incident where one of our children was involved in a car accident. I think the street should be developed for the safety of motorists, perhaps some speed bumps, so that these types of incidents do not happen again ”.
He said that in addition to the truck owners who posted a security guard outside their home Monday night, no one had been held accountable or contacted regarding the way forward.
Police spokesman Capt. Nqobile Gwala said SAPS was investigating a wrongful death case.
“It is alleged that at 7.35pm last night, on Stapleton Road in Pinetown, a truck collided with several vehicles. A 50-year-old truck driver was killed at the scene. The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated, ”he said.
The truck’s owners could not be reached for comment.
