The Scottish full-back has revealed that he had a “fight” with his Reds teammate during a match with Aston Villa.

Andy Robertson has admitted to having a “fight” in the dressing room with his Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane.

The incident in question occurred during their Premier League encounter with Aston Villa in November 2019.

Jurgen Klopp’s team had shot out of the blocks heading into that competition in the West Midlands, coming to top the table during a flawless run for the Reds, but they faced an ordeal of their title credentials against Villa.

Dean Smith’s team took the lead at home via Trezeguet and looked destined to claim a stunning scalp as the clock ticked.

However, Robertson’s first league goal of the season restored parity with three minutes remaining, before Mane scored a spectacular winning goal in injury time.

Klopp admits that he couldn’t have predicted that those two would be the men to complete a remarkable change. That’s because the pair had been involved in a heated exchange in between.

“Do you want to talk about halftime?” Klopp asked Robertson during a ‘On This Day’ discussion with BT sport.

“The first time Sadio and I ended up fighting,” the Scottish left-back replied.

Klopp added: “At halftime, no one could have thought that these two players would end up deciding the game.”

Robertson said: “Maybe we should try more often if it gives me more goals!”

The Liverpool defender has been far from prolific throughout his time at Anfield, with the goal found only four times. However, he has contributed 30 assists to Liverpool’s cause and has achieved a fearsome understanding with Mane on the Reds’ left flank.

They may not always agree, as Mane bumps into Mohamed Salah at times as well, but they have found a way to cause opponents all kinds of trouble.

The two have become key men in Klopp’s plans, helping bring the Champions League, UEFA Super, Club World Cup and Premier League success to Merseyside.

They now have another piece of silver in their sights, with Liverpool set to return to action in 2020-21 when they face a Community Shield clash with FA Cup winner Arsenal on Saturday.
