Rhys Williams put on an astonishing performance after receiving his senior debut for Liverpool during the Reds’ 7-2 win against Lincoln Town on Thursday night.

The 19-year-old Williams was a class act from start to finish and was commanding alongside Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho, who alternated at halftime.
His calm on the ball, coupled with his dominance in the air, rounded out Liverpool’s excellent opening fight and indicated that Klopp should seriously consider Williams in the Carabao Cup fifth-round clash against Arsenal next week.
One of the highlights of the night was seeing the Liverpool teenager that the chance was not going to get over him after Williams possibly produced the pass of the night to spot Divock Origi’s run that led directly to the fourth goal that was hidden in house by Curtis Jones
Williams sent an emotional message after the game, saying it was a particularly proud moment for him and his family.
First step
Williams spent the 2019/20 campaign on loan with Kidderminster Harriers in the National League North gaining vital senior game experience that saw him rack up 26 appearances.
An international at the England U-18 level, Williams is known for his dominance in the air and his imposing physique on his back, which has seen the youngster advance from the U-10 configuration to the first team.
He has a tough battle on his hands if he wants to work his way into Klopp’s draft plans for a sustained period this year with other central defensive options like Sepp van den Berg and Billy Koumetio also desperate for their chances.
However, given such a confident and accomplished performance, it is highly likely that Williams has done enough to retain his place in the squad for Arsenal’s clash in the League Cup next week.
