A rhino horn worth 1.2 million rand was found in a black BMW detained by the KwaZulu-Natal police on Friday.

According to police spokesman Captain Nqobile Gwala, the Pietermaritzburg Flying Squad and the K9 Unit conducted a joint operation on Friday at 06:55 on the southbound N3 motorway on Orthmann Road.
“While they were busy with their duties, they saw a black BMW vehicle traveling south on the N3 motorway.
“The vehicle was searched and a rhino horn was found, which weighed 1.2 kg. The value of the rhino horn is 1.2 million rand,” Gwala said.
“The vehicle used in the commission of the crime was seized by the police. A 30-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with possession of a rhino horn.”
The suspect will appear in Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court on Monday.
