Report suggests why Diogo Jota’s deal reminds fans of Fabinho’s move

Liverpool are reportedly close to signing Diogo Jota in a deal reminiscent of Fabinho’s arrival in 2018. One report suggests why that is the case.

As you’ve probably heard, Liverpool are reportedly closing in on a deal for the Wolves’ Jota. This Sky Sports report states that the move is close and that it will cost the Reds around £ 35 million.

It is certainly an exciting move. Jota is still only 23 years old, but he has scored 16 Premier League goals in the last two years. Also mainly from the wing, which means he could cover both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. It is even an option in between.

So overall it makes great sense for Liverpool.

It is also reminiscent of a wonderfully successful arrival in 2018: Fabinho.

Of nothing

Signings usually take some time. Months, in fact. You will hear about a player for the first time in April and his club signs him in August. In between, there are an infinite number of reports on interest, lack of interest, and the possible contract.

Just look at Thiago. Liverpool formally signed him on Friday, but we’ve been writing about him for months. Everyone knew that Liverpool wanted the player, but the deal took a long, long time.

Then there is Timo Werner. We went through the same thing and the Reds didn’t even sign it at the end.

But Fabinho was different. The news that Liverpool wanted the player came out around noon and it was a Reds by the end of the day. It was a flash deal that came out of nowhere.

And we are seeing something similar with Jota. There was no suggestion that Liverpool wanted it before today, but reports now state that a move could be imminent.

So why the similarity? Well, this report from The Independent says that the move for Jota is being made through Gestifute, who also represented Fabinho in 2018.

It seems, then, that business between Liverpool and Gestifute is done quickly, or at least very quietly.
