The most unlikely transfer of 2021 could see Kylian Mbappé move to Manchester United.
The Times report that Mbappé told Paris Saint-Germain that he intends to leave the club in 2021 to advance his career.
Real Madrid and Liverpool are closely linked, but there is another club on their radar.
The Times report says: “According to a close friend, Mbappé’s interest in English football also extends to Manchester United.”
That is interesting …
The numbers needed to make a deal for Mbappé would likely break records.
PSG would likely demand a fee close to £ 200 million, and its price will likely inflate even more for Euro 2021 next summer.
Let’s say United don’t sign Jadon Sancho this summer, and they don’t have a marquee addition.
There will be additional pressure on the board to get a big name next summer, for business reasons, while Sancho’s money could carry over.
It seems like a long shot, but if Mbappé is interested, United have to sit down and take note, and try to be creative.
Mbappé meets Anthony Martial from his time in Monaco and Paul Pogba from France’s victory in the World Cup.
He played United at home and away with PSG in 2018/19, a tie in which United prevailed.
A deal would be, as we say, a long shot, but for now, let’s dream for a moment.
