A young mother and her son were found murdered on Sunday.
- A 5-year-old boy had his throat slit and his mother stabbed in Ulundi in KwaZulu-Natal over the weekend.
- Their bodies were found by tenants who came to the mother’s house to pay the rent.
- The suspect, a relative, was found at the home and arrested.
A 20-year-old man is expected to appear before Mahlabathini Magistrates Court shortly after being arrested for allegedly killing a 25-year-old woman and her 5-year-old son at Ulundi in KwaZulu-Natal over the weekend. .
According to Colonel Thembeka Mbele, a police spokesman, on Sunday afternoon, students from a Ulundi school, the woman’s tenants, came to the deceased’s house to pay the rent.
“[They] were greeted by an unbearable smell that [came] of one of the rooms. They found the suspect alone in the house. The suspect demanded that the tenants pay him a rent since the deceased was not in the house; however, the tenants refused to give him the money. “

Mbele said they then began searching for the late Siphesihle Magwaza. They found her lying on the floor of her bedroom, covered with a blanket and her feet tied with a cloth.
“The victim suffered multiple stab wounds throughout the body. A search for the child was carried out and the deceased child Owami Magwaza was found outside in the garage, covered with a green bag. The child had also suffered multiple stab wounds throughout the body. and they cut his throat. Both the victims and the suspect were staying in the same house. “
The man is believed to be a relative of the victims.
He was immediately arrested and taken to the Ulundi police station. The motive for the killing is unknown and will be part of an investigation, Mbele said.
