The water pressure at Emfuleni in Vaal and Govan Mbeki and Victor Khanye in Mpumalanga will be reduced by 20% from Monday.

JOHANNESBURG – Rand Water has warned that it will reduce water pressure in three municipalities due to non-payment.

The councils are Emfuleni in Vaal and Govan Mbeki and Victor Khanye in Mpumalanga.

The water pressure in the municipalities will be reduced by 20% as of Monday.

Judge Mohale of the utility company said they were speaking with the three affected municipalities, but had so far been unsuccessful.

“Rand Water has approached these municipalities on many occasions and has entered into reimbursement agreements with them, but they have not complied with these agreements.”

The troubled municipality of Emfuleni is almost 100 million rand in arrears, Victor Khanye 185 million rand, while Govan Mbeki owes Rand Water 314 million rand.

Mohale said that they would contact the municipalities again and that if they did not pay, they would reduce the water pressure by another 20%.
