Johannesburg – President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed shock and shame that the promises he made to the mother of a girl who was raped and murdered earlier this year have not been fulfilled seven months later.

The brutal rape and murder of eight-year-old Tazne van Wyk in Worcester, in the Western Cape, generated widespread condemnation and forced Ramaphosa and a delegation from his executive to visit his family and made several unfulfilled promises.

Tazne’s mother, Zelda van Wyk, told the ANC men’s dialogue webinar hosted by the ANC in the Western Cape on Friday night about the pain and suffering her family had experienced since Ramaphosa made his promises. .

He complained that he had not heard from government officials as Ramaphosa had promised and that the court case was not progressing smoothly.

Van Wyk said that his family and Tazne’s father were the ones being treated like criminals and that the police officers were very disrespectful.

Ramaphosa said he was surprised to be informed that the family had built a Wendy house after promising that its management would improve the family’s living conditions during his visit.

And Mrs. Van Wyk, I am delighted that you are here tonight. Just this week, I dealt with the matter you raised. I want to apologize for that since the last time I visited your house and I came to offer my condolences and come to calm your pain, your acute pain, which I am sure continues until now. The president continued: “I am very sorry and I am ashamed that it did not happen. This same week I was asked, someone came to ask and said: did we say that we are going to build a Wendy house for the Van Wyk family? I said there’s no way I could have said we’re going to build a Wendy house. House”.

Ramaphosa said he was surprised and puzzled that progress in fulfilling his promises to the family was equivalent to building a Wendy house.

A pre-trial hearing for Tazne’s alleged rapist and murderer Moehydien Pangaker is scheduled for January 2021 and the 54-year-old faces multiple charges of rape, murder, sexual assault, kidnapping and rape / desecration of a corpse.
