Cape Town – President Cyril Ramaphosa’s planned visit to the Western Cape this week has been postponed after Prime Minister Alan Winde has been forced to quarantine.

Prime Minister Winde was forced to quarantine after his personal interview with eNCA cameraman Lungile Tom, 45, who died in the hospital on Wednesday morning after testing positive for Covid-19.

“Because I had an individual interview with Lungile after the [Thursday’s] Press conference, being close for some time, I am considered a close contact and now I will be quarantined. Almost seven days have passed since our contact and therefore I will be quarantined for another seven days …

“I will continue to work at full blast, from home. Due to our developed systems, I can continue to join all meetings and oversee our new specific hot spot strategy.”

“Finally, I have also been in contact with the President to alert him to this situation, as he planned to visit the province on Friday. The President agreed to reschedule his visit due to this development, and we thank him for his understanding.” said.

Last week, Winde said Ramaphosa and Health Minister Zweli Mkhize will visit the province, and he hoped to welcome them to the province, “where we will share the steps we have taken to prepare for the peak of the pandemic.” .

The prime minister added that in the coming weeks and months, many more people will become infected across the country and it is important for companies to respond appropriately when a staff member tests positive.

“The Western Cape Government has designed detailed protocols that indicate how to reduce the risk of infection in the workplace, as well as what steps to take if an employee tests positive.”
