Cape Town – President Cyril Ramaphosa expects a report on the flight of self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary to Malawi to be ready on Thursday.

The fugitives, who are free on bail, surrendered to authorities in Lilongwe on Wednesday morning, saying they feared for their lives in South Africa.

The Bushiri, who were released on bail of 200,000 rand each on 4 November, and three co-defendants face charges of fraud, theft and money laundering of 102 million rand in the Pretoria Court of First Instance .

On Tuesday, MPs demanded to see video footage from Waterkloof Air Force Base to determine how the Bushiris fled the country.

Ramaphosa told eNCA on the sidelines of the investment conference in Johannesburg: “The Bushiri issue has been very worrying for all of us and I am waiting for a detailed report on the entire Bushiri saga, which I will get and then we will see what action is needed because there should never happened as it happened.

” Or tomorrow or so I’ll get a report. We are going to take action, that’s for sure ”.

Presidential spokesman Tyrone Seale told News24 that the time frame by which the report will reach Ramaphosa’s desk is up to the security group.

The news of his departure was revealed by Bushiri himself through his various social media platforms.

Malawian Government and Information Minister spokesman Gospel Kazako said the issue would receive fair attention, saying they had “no emotions or feelings” about the case.

” Either they will appear today or tomorrow. We are trying as much as possible to do what we are required to do (speak to the law). “
