Ramaphosa appoints Lusanda Mxenge as Acting CEO of the Presidency

PRETORIA – President Cyril Ramaphosa appointed Lusanda Mxenge as Acting Director General of the Presidency and as Cabinet Secretary effective Tuesday, the Presidency announced.

“Mxenge, who has served as Deputy General Manager: [responsible for] Cabinet will serve as interim director general for a period of six months or until the position is filled, whichever comes first, ”said the Presidency.

“The interim appointment is made in terms of Section 32 of the Public Service Law of 1994, as amended, with all delegated powers attached to the position of general director and department head.”

The appointment of Mxenge follows the retirement of the CEO of the Presidency, Dr. Cassius Reginald Lubisi.

The outgoing CEO was appointed effective November 1, 2010.

According to the Presidency, Lubisi is “an accomplished academic, educator, public service administrator and strategist” who brought to the presidency a wealth of experience from many years at a strategic level in public service and academia.

Lubisi previously served as general superintendent of the education department in KwaZulu-Natal, where he was responsible for the overall strategic direction and management of the provincial department.

Before joining the KwaZulu-Natal provincial government as a department head in 2005, Lubisi was deputy director general for general education and training in the national department of education.

He has also served as a special advisor to former Education Minister Kader Asmal. He was president of Umalusi, the council for general quality assurance and continuing education and training, from June 2002 to May 2004.

Born in Mpumalanga Province, Lubisi studied at the University of Natal (now incorporated into the University of KwaZulu-Natal) and earned Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education degrees (cum laude) as well as a Higher Diploma in Education.
