JOHANNESBURG – President Cyril Ramaphosa said what we have seen in places like Senekal in the Free State shows that as the work of overcoming divisions continues, old wounds remain and reconciliation has yet to be achieved.
Ramaphosa has delivered a virtual message to commemorate the Day of Reconciliation.
He paid tribute to the worldwide movement for black lives and said he hoped activism would forever change the attitudes that have sustained racism in the world.
“What we have seen in Senekal in the Free State, in Eldorado Park in Gauteng and in Brackenfell in Cape Town, shows that the state of race relations in the county remains fragile. We may have come a long way from the days of institutionalized racism, but we are aware of the reality that for many, reconciliation is something they have not yet experienced. “
