Rafael da Silva gave Manchester United a reminder of his enduring quality when he helped Istanbul Basaksehir beat Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team.

The Brazilian put on a typically committed performance to show what it was all about.

Rafael threw himself in front of the blocks, was frequently infuriated with the referee and gave absolutely everything for the Turkish side.

Rafael, who is now 30 years old, joined Istanbul in the summer from Lyon.

He was excited to be tied against United in the Champions League, following his departure in 2015.

After his team’s victory, he sent a respectful message and expressed how excited he will be to appear at Old Trafford in the next game.

There was little doubt as to whether Rafael would feature in this game, after missing the Istanbul league game at the weekend.

He started this match and played the 90 minutes, and should have guaranteed his spot for the next group match.

Former United teammate Rio Ferdinand took to Twitter to regret the decision to sell the Brazilian.

Rafael became a fan favorite at Old Trafford with his displays of top throttle and his passion on full display.

It’s good to see that he hasn’t changed, even if he didn’t help United’s cause last night.
