Queen Elizabeth was strict about one important thing in Philip’s life and made him resign before their wedding.

Queen Elizabeth has had a successful married life with Prince Philip for over 70 years.

However, the monarch was strict about one important thing in Philip’s life and made him give it up forever before marrying.

This was because the young ruler had lost her father, King George VI, to cancer, as he was a heavy smoker.

The disease had caused his premature death in 1952 when he was only 56 years old.

The rule established for Prince Philip by his wife is detailed by royal author Bryan Kozlowski in his new book. Long live the Queen! 13 rules for living from Britain’s longest reigning monarch, where he writes how Elizabeth insisted that Philip quit the habit when they were married in 1947.

The king consort did in fact quit smoking, but not until his wedding day.

“Understandably, Elizabeth insisted that Philip give up the habit that was damaging his father’s health,” Kozlowski writes.

“Philip, who was previously a heavy smoker, committed to phenomenal efficiency, going from one pack a day to suddenly quitting on his wedding day,” he adds.
