Queen Elizabeth II canceled all major events at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle for the remainder of 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The Palace said in a statement: “In accordance with current government guidelines, and as a sensible precaution under the current circumstances, there will be no large-scale events at Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle for the remainder of this year.
A variety of possibilities were examined to see if it was possible for investments to be carried out safely according to the guidelines. Unfortunately, due to the large number of guests and recipients in attendance, it was not possible to find a way to safely conduct these events under the current circumstances. Recipients will be contacted directly.
The Queen’s intention remains to return to Windsor Castle in October and to resume use of Buckingham Palace during an autumn program of hearings and engagements, in accordance with all relevant guidance and advice. “
Palace’s announcement came days after reports that the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan Markle, were considering visiting the UK before Christmas.
