the Premier Soccer League will hold a meeting to discuss the resumption of the season with Sports Minister Nathi Mthethwa next week.
PSL has been suspended for more than a month without a clear indication of when the league could resume.
The governing body will follow FIFA’s example, according to government councils around the world.
PSL President Irvin Khoza spoke to MESS.
He said: “FIFA has issued a directive that provides the green light for the resumption of leagues around the world.
“The board extended the 2019/20 season for one month from June 30 to July 31. Remember, the season was supposed to end on June 30, 2020.
“This FIFA directive establishes a condition regarding league resumption: that leagues must obtain a go-ahead from their respective government health departments.”
Khoza added: “The PSL is currently under discussion with the Minister (Nathi Mthethwa) and other relevant authorities to ensure that FIFA’s condition is met and we can work on plans for the resumption of the league.”
“Whether we resume in two months, three months, or five months or six months, the government and its departments must give us the go-ahead.”
“That is why we are involving the minister in this matter. After the meeting on Thursday, May 7, we will issue a statement (on the way forward).”
South Africa is currently in its sixth week of confinement, and the second day of Level 4 restrictions.
