Thousands of people, including farmers, community members and cyclists, marched towards the Union Buildings in Pretoria after an intense week of protests to highlight attacks on farms and killings in the country.
The brutal murder of Free State farm manager Brendin Horner has caused outrage among the farming community, which is under siege from criminal attackers.
Horner’s body was discovered tied to a post, with several stab wounds and head injuries last weekend.

On Saturday, October 10, vehicles, trucks, and motorcycles gathered at the Union Buildings, where protesters prayed for farmers.
Kallie Roux, one of the organizers of Unite Against Farm Murders / Attacks, had confirmed that The citizen Earlier this week, another protest was scheduled for the weekend.
“These awareness marches will continue in the courts, as well as the peaceful marches in the cities against the murders / attacks on farms,” Roux said.
Shots were fired as protesters arrived at Senekal Magistrates Court on Tuesday to attend the first appearance of the two suspects linked to Horner’s death.
The recent spate of farm killings has put Police Minister Bheki Cele under fire, especially after he condemned the violence at Senekal Magistrates Court.

Cele, who will visit the victim’s family, said she will try to ease tensions before the next court appearance of Horner’s alleged killers.
The minister said tensions would have to be addressed, especially since the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) asked its members to attend the court appearance to “protect state property.”
He reiterated that all “scare crimes”, including attacks on farms and murders, along with theft of money in transit and robberies of houses, were considered a priority by the police.
