South African fast pitcher Dale steyn has confirmed that he will not play for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in this year’s edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The 37-year-old escort broke the news on social media, saying he was taking a break from cricket, but also said he had not yet pulled out of the game.

Steyn tweeted: “Just a short message to let everyone know that I am not available for RCB at this year’s IPL. I also do not plan on playing for another team, just taking time off during that period.

“Thanks to RCB for understanding.

“I will play in other leagues, very well spaced to give me the opportunity to do something that has excited me and continue playing the game that I love so much.

“NO, I am NOT retired. For a great 2021.”

Steyn, who retired from cricket as Proteas’ top wicket receiver with 439 scalps, played three games for the RCB during last year’s IPL, taking one wicket.
