The district attorney requests an urgent update from the National Tax Authority (NPA) on the progress regarding the charges the party brought against KwaZulu-Natal Prime Minister Sihle Zikalala seven months ago.

The criminal charge, brought by DA’s shadow state security minister Dianne Kohler Barnard, alleged that Zikalala violated the Disaster Management Act and national lockdown regulations at Clairwood Hospital on Freedom Day.

“The prime minister violated lockdown regulations on April 27, 2020 by holding a meeting at Clairwood Hospital where he removed staff from duty to hear his speech.”

At the time, Zikalala’s office said she was in the hospital doing routine government work. However, the district attorney was unconvinced and filed charges the same day.

“This does not explain the stage and the sound equipment they rented him to give a speech or the need to get the staff out of their all-important work to gather in the hot sun to hear him speak,” he said.
