Durban – Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife, Mary, are due to appear before the Pretoria Commercial Crimes Court on Wednesday morning.
According to a statement released by Bushiri’s office, the couple will show up at 8 a.m.
Bushiri is believed to have turned himself in to the Hawks while officers were arresting his wife.
According to Colonel Katlego Mogale, a spokesman for the Hawks, four people “including a pastor between the ages of 25 and 39” were arrested for alleged involvement in fraud and money laundering worth R102 million.
“Members of the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation arrested the first couple on Saturday, the woman in Sandton and her husband at OR Tambo International Airport. The two, Willah Mudolo and Zethu Mudolo, have since appeared in Pretoria Magistrates Court and their case was postponed until October 30, 2020 for the formal request for bail, ”he said.
“On Tuesday, the team made a new arrest of another couple allegedly involved in the same case. The 39-year-old woman was arrested at her home and her 37-year-old husband, after trying to evade the team, turned himself in at the Silverton Police Station with an entourage of lawyers, ”Mogale said.
The Bushiris face charges of money laundering, fraud and violation of the Prevention of Organized Crime Act.
The church has asked its followers to pray for the couple.
“Let us continue to be with our spiritual parents putting them in prayer. We wish to inform you that they are still with the Hawks, as previously announced, but the hand of the Lord is with them, they are in great spirit and they have nothing on their mind apart from the thought of you and the church. “Said a statement in the Bushiri’s Facebook page.
