While many may not know it, Prince Charles once had a bomb-proof shelter inside a Highgrove basement, one that he let his children transform into a teenage frat house full of nightclubs.
The duo named their cozy little house Club H and threw a series of parties there while Prince Charles tried to gain public approval for his second marriage to Camilla.
The ‘club’ had a fully stocked bar and therefore Daily mail reports that the temptations were too much for young Harry, who was very young at the time.
Sixteen-year-old Prince William was the main host of the party, and Prince Harry, whose confidence eluded his royal age, was absorbed too deeply into a life of drinking, more so than his experienced brother.
While Prince Charles was home, the parties didn’t stop either, they just moved to The Rattlebone Inn, located in the town of Sherston, about five miles away.
Britain has strict rules for underage drinking, but no one raided the pub while the actual cars were parked outside the premises, and therefore the Inn management would also turn a blind eye to the shenanigans, according to the main newspaper.
The trouble started after Prince William moved to Eton at the age of 18, because that’s when Prince Harry was left alone, drinking and enjoying himself.
After news of his ‘habits’ reached Prince Charles, he took Prince Harry on a rehab visit where he spoke to his visitors about “the consequences of using drugs.” However, shortly thereafter, news of Prince Harry’s “shame” began to make headlines in 2002 and the topic was dubbed “Harry’s Drug Shame.”
While Prince Harry was sidelined as the troublesome child, Prince Charles gained recognition and the headlines dubbed him for having the “courage of a wise and loving father.”
