DJ Fresh and Euphonik have been fired from Radio 947, Primedia Broadcasting announced Wednesday night.

The FeU duo, whose real names are Thato Sikwane and Themba Nkosi, are facing a rape charge after a woman accused the duo of raping and drugging her, along with three other women, 10 years ago.

Gauteng Police confirmed that the women who brought the charges against them opened a formal rape case against the two at the Sunnyside Police Station on January 13.

Primedia said they had made the decision to terminate the duo’s contract in the best interest of their business.

Geraint Crwys-Williams, acting CEO of Primedia Broadcasting, said: “This decision does not reflect an opinion on the veracity of the allegations against Euphonik or Fresh.

Rather, it prioritizes the business imperatives of Primedia Broadcasting.

“We believe that this decision is in the best interest of our company and our various stakeholders,” he said.

In January, a woman took to social media to publicly accuse the duo of raping and drugging her, along with three other women in 2011.

The woman had prayed that the duo would acknowledge that she had been raped, and also said that she was a virgin at the time of the alleged rape and had to take anxiety medication before she could speak about the incident on social media.

She wrote: “@DJFreshSA & @euphonik, will you ever admit to drinking (drugging) me and raping me even more? He was completely high (I don’t know if BOTH raped me or one of you did) and then he laughed about it the next morning saying that we (me and 3 girls) were so drunk that we kept passing out, but nasidlwengula (you raped us) ” .

In a statement released shortly after the allegations were made, DJ Fresh and Euphonik denied the allegations and said they were hurtful.

“I am aware that claims have been made about me on social media and I understand that this is often the price of being in the public eye. The fact that these claims are false and from an unknown source does not make them any less hurtful, ”they said at the time.

In mid-January, Fresh and Euphonik were suspended after the duo got engaged to Primedia Broadcasting.

He also shared a joint statement on social media confirming that they will be taking a sabbatical while the investigation is taking place.

“In light of the serious accusations that have been made to us, we have decided to stay away from all public works commitments until this matter is resolved and the law runs its course,” the statement read.

IOL Entertainment contacted DJ Fresh, who dismissed the rape allegations.

In the statement issued, DJ Fresh said: “I am aware that claims have been made about me on social media and I understand that this is often the price of being in the public eye.

“The fact that these claims are false and from an unknown source does not make them any less hurtful.

She continued: “Furthermore, I am deeply concerned that false allegations about gender-based violence, especially as it is one of the most important societal challenges in South Africa, undermine the seriousness of legitimate incidents and affect the urgency with which they are addressed.
