JOHANNESBURG – As the country focuses on women and child abuse, a Pretoria mother has described Eyewitness news how her elementary school daughter was raped multiple times by a tenant living in her yard.
The 14-year-old girl became pregnant during one of the attacks and only realized it last week. Since then she has had an abortion at a state hospital.
The rapist threatened to kill the teenager and even tried to contact her family this week as the country marks 16 days of activism for non-violence against women and children.
“The girl did not know she was pregnant; the tenant abused her all the time. He would ask her for something and then he would force his way into the house, then cover her mouth and rape her. “
Last week, Mamelodi East’s seventh-grader was still pregnant when her mother found out that she had been raped multiple times over the past eight months.
The woman, who cannot be identified to protect her minor son, said her daughter’s rapist also made threats about what would happen if she told someone about the abuse.
“He started to sleep a lot, I decided to buy a test. this guy threatens us not to tell anyone, he said he would kill us both. “
The suspect, who is believed to be 40 years old, rented a room from the family and took advantage of the victim when her mother was not around.
The family says the suspect is not yet in police custody and even tried to contact them earlier this week.
Mamelodi police have opened a rape case, but the suspect has not yet been arrested.
The mother said they were trapped in a nightmare, without help from the police.
“It’s a living hell, he tried to come here Tuesday. It’s not fair. They must arrest him. ”
