JOHANNESBURG – Senior ANC officials have asked President Cyril Ramaphosa to control Finance Minister Tito Mboweni.

Last week, Mboweni went public with disagreements with cabinet colleagues.

First, he stated that he did not support a continued ban on tobacco sales during the shutdown, and then distanced himself from the executive’s decision to reserve COVID-19 tourism aid funds for small black-owned businesses.

ANorth Carolina Treasurer General Paul Mashatile confirmed to eNCA that the top six party officials discussed Mboweni’s behavior on Monday.

‘We discussed that and our opinion is that colleagues should work together. We know that in any organization, including the cabinet, people will have different points of view, but at the end of the day, once a decision has been made, we want everyone to recognize it, “Mashatile said.

He says the president has been asked to speak to Mboweni.

“The president was going to speak to him to tell him that what he did was wrong and I suppose that if the behavior continues after you have been spoken to and warned, the organization could bring you to a disciplinary process.”
