Springbok star Handre Pollard has been hospitalized in France following a serious knee injury sustained during Montpellier’s loss to Racing 92 in the Top 14 in Paris last night. Pollard was injured during a tackle attempt on Racing’s Baptiste Chouzenoux.

Pollard tackled Chouzenoux upright from the side while covering from the right wing and was immediately left writhing on the ground. Play was stopped for nearly 20 minutes and after being treated by medical personnel on the Pollard field of play. He was later taken out on a stretcher from La Defense Arena and taken to hospital.

It is a huge blow for both the Rugby World Cup winner and Montpellier. The star, who reportedly receives a salary of more than a million euros per season, could be out of action for the rest of 2020 and beyond.

Elsewhere during the game, Racing’s new signing Wallaby, who signed with Kurtley Beale, was sent off in his first home appearance. Beale received a direct red card for a tackle on Montpellier’s Arthur Vincent in the 62nd minute.

It did not stop Racing, who won 41-17.
