Political parties have strongly criticized the ruling ANC and its handling of Covid-19 relief funds, which were allegedly looted by leaders of related parties.
During a National Assembly debate on Tuesday, the parties stormed the ANC, directly blaming the party and its leaders.
President Cyril Ramaphosa announced a 500 billion rand relief fund after he placed the country on lockdown in reaction to the Covid-19 pandemic. But it has been marred by corruption, ranging from looting of FIU TERS money to misappropriating food packages and alleged corruption related to personal protective equipment.
DA leader John Steenhuisen, who sponsored the debate, was the first to investigate the party, even going so far as to refer to the looters as hyenas.
“The Covid funds were earmarked for life-saving food and medical equipment. This is not just a robbery. It is murder. Corruption costs lives, ”he said. Steenhuisen said that while the district attorney was building field hospitals in the Western Cape, the ANC was digging graves in Gauteng.
