JOHANNESBURG – Sixteen suspects in Limpopo are in police custody after they were caught in possession of cigarettes and illicit drugs.
A police officer is among the suspects who were arrested in the sting operation in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Police Moatshe Ngoepe said the items recovered during the arrest include two motor vehicles, a firearm, ammunition, illicit cigarettes and various narcotics.
Ngoepe said the 36-year-old police officer, stationed at the Apel police station, was handcuffed during a stop and search and was found to be in possession of 20 envelopes of nyaope.
Meanwhile, in the Eastern Cape, a man was arrested in Dutywa in what is described as one of the biggest recent dagga chaos in the province.
The suspect was detained in the CBD on Friday while transporting cannabis worth an estimated 1 million rand.
He was on his way to Port Elizabeth when patrolling traffic officers searched his vehicle.
