Gauteng police launched a search for unknown suspects following a shooting in which a seven-year-old boy was fatally wounded in Phiri, Soweto.
“It is reported that around 02:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2021, while the deceased minor and three adults were sleeping in a shack on Khaphamali Road, an unconfirmed number of unknown suspects fired from outside, wounding fatally to the child and injuring the three male victims who were taken to hospital for medical attention, “police spokesman Brig. Mathapelo Peters said in a brief statement on Saturday.
Enca reported that a woman said she was beaten with a gun, but was spared further injuries because her son defended her.
Murder and attempted murder cases were being investigated, however the motive for the shooting had yet to be determined.
The police are also appealing to anyone with information that can help in the capture of the suspects, to present themselves urgently to the police at Moroka SAPS or to call Crime Stop.
