JOHANNESBURG – Various political structures in KwaZulu-Natal have been receiving condolences following the death of Vice President Mluleki Ndobe.
Many have hailed Ndobe, who joined the legislature in 2019 after two terms as mayor of Harry Gwala District Township, as a selfless servant.
Ndobe died at his home in Durban early this morning with a gunshot wound to the chest.
The vice president faced legal problems in recent years after he was accused of being involved in the murder of the former secretary general of the ANC Youth League, Sindiso Magaqa, after he was shot dead in 2017.
The news of Ndobe’s death came as a shock to many within the KwaZulu-Natal legislature structures.
Spokesperson Nontembeko Boyce described her colleague, who was allegedly battling cancer at the time of her death, as a leader of integrity and a true servant of the people.
“He had a great experience in terms of governance. But hearing that he didn’t go through his illness was also a double blow for us. “
While speculation abounds about Ndobe’s death, Nhlakanipho Ntombela of the ANC said police investigations were continuing.
“Speculation surrounding his death is not something we will discuss until we have spoken with his family.”
Ntombela said the ANC leadership would visit the Ndobe family today, where preparations for their funeral would be organized.
