Limpopo police are investigating two drownings after the bodies of two children were found on the outskirts of Seshego, near Polokwane.

The bodies of the children, aged 5 and 7, were found in Thakgalang village on Friday around 4:00 PM.

The children had reportedly been playing alongside a small dam when they decided to swim unsupervised, provincial police spokesman Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said.

“Later, their families noticed that the children are nowhere to be found and the matter was reported to the police … Subsequently, the SAPS Search and Rescue Team and [emergency services personnel] They were also notified and managed to recover the bodies from the dam with the support of the local community, ”said Ngoepe.

An investigation case has been opened for further investigation.
