Police Believe France’s Most Wanted Man is in Hong Kong and Will Commit “Another Dreadful Offense” | World News

French police believe France’s most wanted man is a fugitive in Hong Kong and they are “99 percent certain” that he will commit “another gruesome criminal offense.”

Karim Ouali is wanted for the alleged murder of Jean Meyer in 2011.

“It is a danger to anyone who crosses,” Jacques Croly, the head of the French fugitive arrest and search team, told Sky News.

“The people who may know him must be fully aware of that.”

Police say Ouali attacked Meyer with an ax, causing multiple injuries, at the airport traffic control tower where they both worked in Mulhouse, eastern France.

Ouali “suffered from depression, he was paranoid – schizophrenic too,” Croly said, and that a doctor had fired Ouali from working at the airport because of his mental state.

After the murder, the police believe that Ouali fled to Switzerland, altering his passport by changing the O in his last name to a Q.

“He’s a really smart, really smart guy,” Croly told Sky News. “He sent us a lot of red herrings.”

One of them included sending his mobile phone through the mail to divert the police from his trail.

From Switzerland he went to Macau and then to Hong Kong.

He was arrested, sentenced and briefly imprisoned there in 2014 after Hong Kong authorities discovered that he had forged his passport and thus entered the region illegally.

In 2016 he disappeared, but in 2018 the French police received an anonymous tip that he was in the city.

There is “no further evidence that he left Hong Kong.

He had to hand over his passport to the Hong Kong authorities, so he is now undocumented, “Croly told Sky News.

“He’s a guy who doesn’t belong to organized crime or organized groups, he doesn’t have hidden money, he doesn’t have cash hidden somewhere. So he has to make a new life in Hong Kong, he has a new wife, a child, probably new friends.”

Croly said the French and Hong Kong authorities had worked together a lot, but that Ouali is still at large.

Having tried to work the case quietly, they are now making a public call for information.

“We need to get the public’s attention to get information on this guy.

“If someone has information about this type, the only thing they can do is report it to the police or connect to the most wanted website in the EU where we can receive anonymous notices, anytime, anytime, about this type.

“The crucial point is that the public in Hong Kong … is fully aware of how dangerous this guy is. We would be devastated if we ever found out that he was involved in another crime. We could not forgive ourselves.”
